Summer in the City: Our Picks for Atlanta’s Top Shows and Events in 2016

Many of our finest summer memories are of evenings spent under the stars with a stellar band on stage, filling a humid night with great tunes, or listening to an awesome jam in a packed arena.

Luckily, Atlanta’s summer of 2016 will not disappoint concertgoers. Here are our picks for the hottest tickets in the city this year:

Top concerts and events from Alan, our owner and CEO:

Jimmy Buffett & the Coral Reefer Band

Infinite Energy Arena | June 2

Parrotheads unite! Jimmy’s shows always offer a great time to be had by all.

10,000 Maniacs

City Winery at Ponce City Market | June 4

They are always great – and their shows sound good as well. Their music is very immersive, too.

Steely Dan and Steve Winwood

Chastain Park Amphitheater | June 26

You’ll hear timeless hits such as “Deacon Blue” and “Higher Love” in the classic Chastain setting.

Tunes from the Tombs at Oakland Cemetery

Oakland Cemetery | June 18

This music festival benefiting preservation efforts at Oakland Cemetery features headliners Arrested Development (an Atlanta favorite) and a slew of other local artists and cover bands.  Along with food trucks, an artist’s market and lots of spooky fun – what’s not to love?

Picks from Chris, our Operations Manager:

Weezer and Panic! At The Disco

Lakewood Amphitheater | June 16

Chris says, “I’ve never seen Panic! At The Disco, but Weezer is one of my favorite bands from high school and college. Great ‘90’s and ‘00’s alt-rock band, and almost always a spectacular performance.”

Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration featuring Warren Haynes with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra

Chastain Park Amphitheater | June 24

“Warren Haynes is one of my favorite guitarists, and it should be a magical combination of world-class performers playing great music at a fantastic venue.”

Virginia-Highland Summerfest

Virginia-Highland neighborhood | June 4-5

“The many art and food festivals around the city are usually high on my list of favorite things to do in the summer. The Dogwood Festival is certainly the biggest, but it’s hard to beat the location of the Virginia-Highland Summerfest, especially with so many great places to have dinner and a drink after the artist market has closed.”

Chihuly in the Garden

Atlanta Botanical Garden | Now through October 30

Amazingly colorful glass sculptures are scattered throughout the 30-acre Botanical Garden next to Piedmont Park. Chris says. “After seeing the pictures online (and everyday on the digital billboard at Peachtree and Paces Ferry) I can’t wait to see this exhibit for myself.  Plus, the Garden is open later than normal, so this is something that can be enjoyed after the June heat has dissipated a bit in the evening.”

The Atlanta Braves’ Final Season at Turner Field

Chris admits, “While I won’t try to sell you on seeing a championship caliber baseball team this year (maybe the visiting team depending on when you go!), this is the last summer to enjoy everything Turner Field has to offer before SunTrust Park opens next season. Plus, you’ll get to know all of the great young Braves players before ESPN starts talking about them in the next few seasons!” Upcoming home stands: June 1-2 versus the Giants, June 10-16 versus the Cubs and Reds, and June 23-30 versus the Mets, Indians, and Marlins.
